Locals claim tournament

Mathoura’s Men’s 2x4x2 Pairs Tournament was held on Thursday, with 26 teams taking part.

Players came from all over to participate, including from Melbourne.

At the end of the of play there were six three game winners.

Points decide the game — 10 points for a win, five for a draw and a point for each end won.

Winners were G Hulm and R Werner of Mathoura with 85 points.

Second was G McKay and D Millard from Stanhope with 84, and third with 83 was D Morris and E Miller from Brunswick.

Just missing out were G Toy and partner from Hilltop (81), R Morris and partner from Deniliquin (81) and Stanhope’s B Williams and partner (82).

In the midweek pennant competition on Friday, neither Mathoura team had any success.

Division 1 played Rich River on their home turf, and lost 55-62.

Division 3 played Moama Green and went down by only one point, 37-38.

Two of the five weekend pennant teams had a win on Saturday.

Division 1 travelled to Rich River and lost 50-69.

Division 2 was on the road to Rochester and could not overcome the home team, losing 45-61.

Division 3 played at home to Moama, who had a convincing win against the home side, 42-67.

Divisions 4A and 4B brought home the chocolates on Saturday.

Mathoura Red (4A) defeated Elmore 43-29 at Elmore.

Mathoura Blue (4B) played at home to Deniliquin and won 47-42.

Lists are on display at the bowls office for the Men’s B Grade Singles 21 Up, Men’s 100 Up Handicap and Mixed Pairs. Get your names in if you are playing.
